Summertime means countless days spent on the lake. In Southeast Tennessee, we have an abundance of bodies of water to enjoy during the warmer months. Whether you prefer to be on the river or on the lake, check out this packing list for a fun weekend on the water!

Check The Forecast 

 

Also, before you head out for a day on the lake, be sure to check the weather forecast! Conditions can change rapidly during the summer, and pop-up thunderstorms are very common. Even if you only hear thunder, it’s never a good idea to go out on the water if a thunderstorm is in the area. Lightening can travel quickly over open areas and around water. The good thing about pop-up summer thunderstorms is that they typically pass quickly. So, hang in there! Sometimes it’s better to wait an hour or so until the danger passes to ensure everyone is safe and happy. Then, the fun can continue!

 

Maintenance Your Boat 

 

Another great tip when embarking on a weekend on the water is to carefully evaluate your boat. Give your engine/motor a once-over and make sure you have extra fuel on reserve in case of emergency. Also, be sure that your boat has proper identification and registration visible for local authorities. Finally, ensure that your boat is safely secured to your trailer and that all brake lights and signals are working properly before heading out of your driveway.
